The Salmon are here!

Rain, snowmelt and warmth make the salmon move upriver!

The season just opened yesterday on the Vefsna, some fish have been caught, and fish have gone up the ladder at Laksfors - not as many as had been the case if VeFi had done their job and prioritised the tunnel at Forsjordio, but you don’t have to ponder upon who is profiting of this – I’m sure the fishermen are having a ball on the Forsjordio beat just below the tunnel… In any case VeFi started some few years ago repairing some inadequate of the 18 salmon-ladders furthest away from the estuary – God knows why! Logik seems to be for people with common sense, and those would think that you open something in places that would make it possible on all water-levels to travel upstream as far as possible – in the Vefsna about 140 Km all in all – if not hindered by something that doesn’t work. And VeFi seems to be busy doing nothing – at least since an old report from the middle of August last year – but maybe they are working “undercover” and have done something unmentioned with some of the other ladders during spring when water was low? - but I doubt it! Funding they are wailing – “funding” (maybe they should look for the one earning millions on fishing-licenses here – but, oh, I forgot he is the chairman of VeFi and he is also the one having Forsjordio, plus sitting hard on Vefslaks with some of his family). In other words, the tunnel will not be usable for years if they wait for funding from somewhere else – and the chairman of course has no interest in putting the tunnel on the agenda of VeFi… Nothing will change as long as the landowners along the river do not demand the fish-rights back in their hands – as it is common in all of Norway, where they have freed themselves of the so-called Salmon-Barons.

So farmers unite and let common sense prevail!
